Year 9 Students Take a Stand: Tackling Sexism Head-On with UK Feminista
Over the past few weeks, our Year 9 students have been taking part in two inspiring and thought-provoking workshops led by UK Feminista, an organisation dedicated to creating a society where women and girls live free from sexism and violence. The sessions have been a powerful reminder that education is key to lasting change — and our students are rising to the challenge!
UK Feminista works tirelessly to end sexism in schools, including tackling issues like sexual harassment, sexist language, and harmful gender stereotypes. Through research, training, and resources, they empower young people to become changemakers in their own communities — and now, our students are joining that mission.
In the workshops, students explored the root causes of gender inequality, discussed how to identify and challenge sexist behaviours, and learned how everyone has a role to play in making schools safe, respectful places where girls and boys can thrive as equals.
But this is only the beginning! In just a few weeks, a passionate group of Year 9 students will be leading assemblies for the lower school, sharing what they’ve learned and encouraging others to take action. Their goal? To raise awareness, spark conversations, and inspire everyone to challenge unfair policies and attitudes that allow sexism to persist.
"It opened our eyes to things we didn't realise were happening around us — and now we know how to make a difference," said one student.
With the support of UK Feminista, our students are showing that young people have the power to change the world — one classroom at a time. Stay tuned for the upcoming assemblies and get ready to be inspired!
