Religious Studies

Eastbrook School’s Religious Studies (RS) department contributes to the school’s ‘Character and Academics’ vision, complementing PSHE to develop well-rounded students. Rooted in British values of tolerance, democracy, rule of law, and free speech, Religious Studies aligns with the school’s PROUD habits, fostering responsible citizenship.

Students are encouraged to think critically, research independently, and engage in debates. The curriculum emphasises effective communication, including persuasive writing and empathetic dialogue. It aims to develop a deep understanding of diverse communities, personal identity, and complex societal issues.

Aligned with the national curriculum and the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham Agreed RS Syllabus, the Religious Studies curriculum equips students with knowledge, skills, and values for a successful future. By the end of Key Stage 3, students will have explored various religious beliefs and practices, developed critical thinking skills, and fostered personal qualities such as resilience and empathy. This strong foundation in religious literacy and personal responsibility prepares students for future challenges.

We strongly encourage students to participate fully in all aspects of our curriculum, including Religious Studies and PSHE. However, parents and carers have the right to withdraw students from aspects of the Religious Studies and PSHE curriculum. This is a process that is carefully managed by the school and we work actively to encourage parents and carers to engage with the support, training and information that we offer, to ensure that students get the fullest experience possible. If a parent or carer does wish to discuss this, or remove a student, they should contact the academic deputy Mr Hewitt by email: hewittn@eastbrookschool.org.
