MFL

The MFL Department at Eastbrook School is committed to fostering a love for languages and a curiosity about different cultures, preparing students to thrive in a diverse society. From KS2 to KS5, students focus on French as their Modern Foreign Language. This not only enhances their communication skills, but also introduces them to the Francophone world, promoting life skills such as empathy, tolerance, and respect.

Throughout the three to four key stages, students independently and creatively develop their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. This prepares them to apply their vocabulary and grammar knowledge effectively in real-life situations.

The curriculum ensures balanced coverage of these skills each year, integrating GCSE requirements into KS3 and focusing on topics relevant to students' age and interests, such as family, online activities, school life, future plans, and well-being. There is a systematic repetition of the skills and topics throughout the learning journey, but the work becomes progressively more challenging each year to allow for a greater depth of knowledge and understanding.

To ensure students develop both confidence and proficiency, a variety of activities are used, including interactive language games, group and paired work, music, video clips, research projects, and enrichment activities.

The MFL team strives to provide an exciting and inspiring language learning experience for all our students.
