Year 8 Netball Season

14 Mar

What an incredible season it's been for our Year 8 netball team! From a challenging start to the season, to finishing strong, the girls have truly shown what determination, teamwork, and resilience are all about.

The season kicked off with a very close loss, but instead of letting it set them back, the team came out fighting, determined to improve. Every match was an opportunity to build on their connections and refine their teamwork. Over the course of the season, we saw players adapt to changes in positions, and their ability to adjust and continue performing at a high level was impressive.

Some of the standout moments included dominant victories such as a 20-0 win against Greatfields, a 16-1 victory over Dagenham Park, and a 16-0 win against Goresbrook. The team’s attacking and defensive efforts were exceptional, scoring 110 goals and conceding just 30 – the lowest goals conceded in the league! These statistics speak volumes about their commitment and skill.

As the final results were tallied, the team secured a very respectable 3rd place in the league, missing out on 2nd by just 1 point. The girls worked hard and gave everything to the season, and that dedication certainly paid off.

Borough Rally:

On Tuesday 11th March, the team took part in the highly anticipated Borough Rally. Drawn into a tough group with all the top 3 teams from the league, the girls knew they had a tough road ahead. Only the top 2 teams from the group would progress to the semi-finals, but the girls were determined to make it count.

The group stage saw some excellent performances, with wins of 6-0, 7-0, and 7-2. However, the match against Robert Clack was a nail-biter. With the game drawing to a close, the girls were equal on score, but an unfortunate contact call led to Robert Clack being awarded a penalty shot, which they converted as the whistle blew.

The match against Riverside, who were still unbeaten and league winners, was a true test of character and skill. The girls were playing their best netball of the season, leading 4-2 at one point. However, a series of controversial decisions on obstructions and contacts allowed Riverside to claw their way back to 5-5. As the game neared its end, another contact call gave Riverside one last chance, which they converted to finish 6-5 as the final whistle blew. Although disappointed by the result, it was clear that the team had been the better side on the day. They showed incredible skill, teamwork, and composure, and the close loss was a testament to just how well they had played.

As we wrap up the season, we want to say a huge congratulations to all the players for their hard work and determination. We may not have come away with trophy this time, but we’ve laid a strong foundation for future success. Next season, we look forward to building on everything we’ve learned and coming back even stronger. The team has a bright future ahead, and with this year’s experience, we’re confident they will continue to grow and excel.
