Reading Beautifully with Buddies

Year 6 and Reception classes have come together on Friday afternoons this half-term and shared their love of reading. Each student in Year 6 has 'buddy' in Reception class who they partner up with and read to. Year 6’s have shown many of the school virtues when reading with their younger peers of kindness, love of learning, zest, patience and many more.

It was wonderful to watch the pupils interacting with each other, laughing over texts, pointing at pictures, sounding out words together and enjoying a good story. Year 6 students enjoyed reminiscing over some of their favourite reads when they were in Reception class and have shown themselves to be wonderful role models for the younger children to aspire towards, making both Mrs Turner and Mrs Fernandes feel very PROUD!

Eastbrook School is an Ofsted rated Good, all-through school in the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham and is part of the Barking Abbey family. Founded in 1933, Eastbrook has a well-established history of serving the local community, with many generations of families attending as students and even joining as staff. The primary school opened in 2016 and is growing in size year on year. The secondary school transferred into new, state of the art buildings in 2017, benefiting from purpose-built specialist learning environments with industry level resources and outstanding access to green outdoor spaces.
