Learning about the Past at the National Army Museum
On Thursday 21st November, Year 6 pupils visited the National Army Museum in Chelsea, to support their History topic on World War Two. We are PROUD of how engaged the children were during the visit. They were able to view many primary sources of evidence and participated in many hands on activities.
First, students took part in an immersive workshop. They looked at propaganda posters, encouraging men to enlist in the army and fight for their country. They rated posters according to the strength of the message conveyed and whether they liked the format. Different students liked different posters for very different reasons.
Next, they explored the galleries and exhibits in the museum. Students learnt how to march, beat a drum to a military tune, dress up in military uniform, pack a kit bag and create remembrance poppy artwork. The highlight for many students was being able climb in, sit on and drive a simulator tank!
The visit was a fantastic learning opportunity and pupils thoroughly enjoyed their time at the museum.
