Into the Last Wild

28 Jan

On 27th January, Year 6 visited the Eastbrook Forest to support their learning around the book that they are reading in English - 'The Last Wild'.  The story focuses on a child who is one of the last humans left on the planet to wander in a wild environment.

Students imagined what it was like to be the main character in the story and fly over the forest with wild birds, explore a cold, quiet woodland and feel close to nature. They used their senses to describe the sights, sounds, touch, smell of a woodland. They could then use their experience outside to aid their writing tasks around the text.

To complete their time outdoors, students ate toasted marshmallows, cookies around a fire and drank hot chocolate. The experience outdoors has enabled the text to be brought to life and aided students’ writing.
