Eastbrook Celebrates British Science Week
Our school celebrated British Science Week 2025 with an array of exciting and educational activities. Year 7, Year 8, and Year 9 students all engaged in various exciting and hands-on challenges that allowed them to explore the world of science and develop their problem solving, time management and teamwork skills. From building spaghetti bridges to designing animal adaptation posters and tackling the thrilling Science Escape Room, British Science Week was an unforgettable experience for everyone involved.
Year 7 students fully embraced the fascinating world of animal adaptations through research into various animals and their unique adaptations that help them survive in specific environments. Whether it was the camouflage of a chameleon or the insulating layers of a polar bear's fur, students created informative and eye-catching posters to showcase these incredible natural adaptations. This activity sparked curiosity and enhanced students’ understanding of biology in a creative way.
In Year 8, students put their engineering and problem-solving skills to the test by taking on the challenge of building a bridge out of spaghetti. Armed with only pasta and glue, students worked in teams to design and construct bridges that could hold the most weight. Through trial and error, students had to adapt their original designs and, in the process, they learned important lessons in structural engineering, including how to use different shapes and techniques to increase strength and stability. The competition was fierce, and the winning bridges held surprising amounts of weight! The activity not only sparked creativity but also highlighted the importance of teamwork and critical thinking in real-world problem-solving.
The excitement reached new heights for Year 9 students as they entered the Science Escape Room! In this fast-paced challenge, students worked in small teams to solve a series of science-themed puzzles including finding the animals camouflaged very well in their environment. The puzzles tested their knowledge of physics, chemistry, biology, and environmental science, requiring them to think critically and collaborate under pressure to unlock clues and escape the room. With time ticking away, students raced against the clock, using their scientific knowledge and problem-solving skills to crack codes and escape before time ran out. Some Year 8 students also rose to the challenge and were proud to be able to demonstrate their knowledge and skills. The escape room was an interactive and exhilarating way to bring science to life, and the students had an unforgettable experience.
We are PROUD of our scientists at Eastbrook School!
